US festival to screen 3 Iranian films

The 12th edition of the Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival in the US has been scheduled to screen three Iranian films.

In the event's 12th year, Iran films ‘Kupal’ directed by Kazem Molaie, ‘Inversion’ directed by Behnam Behzadi, and ‘Lantouri’ directed by Reza Dormishian will be screened in September 2017.

The Iranian films will be featured alongside works by Asian countries, including India, China, Japan, South Korea, Iraq and Turkey.

The 115-minute ‘Lantouri’ is a social drama about retaliation law, women’s equality, human-rights violations, and corruption. It shows the life of an Iranian woman who has her face doused with acid.

The 84-minute ‘Inversion’ is about Niloufar, a young unmarried girl who runs an alteration shop and lives with her aging mother. When doctors warn her that her mother will have to leave Tehran for her mother’s health due to the amounts of pollution, Niloufar struggles between sticking with her family and trying to live her own life.

In the 81-minute ‘Kupal’ a hunter and taxidermist accidentally traps himself in his basement. With little food and no water, Dr. Ahmad Kupal must survive using creative and desperate means.

Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival is a ten-day Asian film festival held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The festival is an annual event showing films from India, Japan, China, Turkey, Lebanon, South Korea, Iraq, Philippines, and Iran.

Silk Screen will celebrate its 12th Film Festival on September 15-24, 2017.
